USN Student ID

A concept redesign applying the Université Sorbonne-Nouvelle’s new visual identity to the student ID card, reframing a piece of everyday campus infrastructure as a flagship expression of the university’s refreshed vision.
Challenge
When USN unveiled a new visual identity after the opening of the new Nation campus, built to represent a forward-looking network of schools and universities across Paris, much of the existing collateral hadn’t caught up. The student ID card was a prime example: a functional but dated artifact that had quietly outgrown its original purpose. What began as a simple proof of enrollment had become a central access point for campus life. From borrowing library books, paying for food, to unlocking facilities across campus. The card needed to reflect both the ambition of the new brand and the expanded role it now played in students’ daily lives.
Solution
The redesigned card applies USN’s new visual language with intention, stripping back clutter to give prominence to what matters most. A QR code replaces the legacy barcode for greater flexibility, and NFC compatibility enables tap-to-pay and facility access. The concept extends to a virtual card available on mobile devices, ensuring the design works seamlessly across both physical and digital contexts.
